Chapter 6

Being married was…nice.

Well, to be fair, she’d only been married two days, but those two days were very nice.

She and Cade had spent all of Saturday just laying around the hotel room, feeding each other room service and learning about one another’s bodies. Who knew there were so many ways to make love?

Just thinking about the things she’d learned, and the experiences they’d shared, made Jami blush.

“Uh-oh, there she goes again.”

She jerked her head up from where she’d been contemplating her mostly empty plate, to find Jim Cauldron smiling at her.

“What?” she asked, pretending confusion.

Jim elbowed Wyatt, who was sitting beside him at the family dinner. “Any time someone’s not actively speaking to her, your brother’s wife goes all starry-eyed and starts blushing.”

Solemnly, Wyatt nodded. “Either Griselda’s chicken and dumplings are giving her indigestion, or Cade has given her lots to think about.”

Beside her, Cade reached out and took her hand. When he squeezed it, she peeked up at him, and he winked. That made her blush harder, she was certain.

“My dinner does not give out indigestion,” the Cauldron family housekeeper called from her place at the other end of the table. “And to insinuate that is just plain—”

“Alright, boys, lay off,” their grandfather interrupted. “Griselda, your cooking is fine.”

“Fine?” she repeated, with narrowed eyes.

The corners of Pops’ lips tugged upward in a way which reminded Jami of her new husband. “Yep. Perfectly adequate.”

It was obvious he was teasing her.

“It’s delicious, as always, Griselda,” Decker corrected, and the woman huffed.

“Point is,” Pops continued, “you boys need to be polite to Jami. She’s a Cauldron now, and that makes Cade my favorite, until one of you get around to marrying.”

Wyatt blinked innocently, while Jim bent back over the last of his chicken and began scooping the gravy onto a spoon. “Thought Bob was your favorite, seeing as how he beat Cade to the altar by a whopping six days.”

His grandfather shrugged. “Bob and Tessa ain’t here, are they? So Cade’s my favorite for now. When those two lovebirds get back, they can both be my favorites, yeah?”

From his spot beside the old man, Ted shook his head. “I can’t believe both of you are married.” He nodded to Jami. “But it sure is nice to have some fresh blood around for these Sunday evening dinners. Looking forward to hearing all about your work sometime.”

Jami smiled and nodded in agreement. She imagined, after a while, Sunday dinners must start to blend together, with everyone always talking about the same things. If the rest of the Cauldrons began marrying, all their new wives would have even more to discuss.

The thought of five other women gathered around the table made her cock her head thoughtfully.

What kind of brides would the other Cauldron men choose?
